Comments: I just wanted to say that this was very touching to me. I am doing a research paper on Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual adolescent suicide in th US and I plan on using some examples from Bill's life. My sister is a 15 year old lesbian and has tried to commit suicide numerous times, so I can kinda relate to the story. I just wanted to thank you for sharing this story.

Comments: Wow. This story really affected me since I lived in Olympia Washington at
about the time this happened. I feel responsible in an odd way since I'm
bisexual and have hidden that fact from the world. Perhaps if I had been more open about my own sexual feelings the world, and Olympia, would be a different place. In any case, I can only go on from the present moment and start by saying that I feel close to Bill's spirit. It could have been me.
How can I help? What needs to be done? Please write me with your ideas.
Blessings! Steve

I don't know what is like to have a gay child, however I do know what is like to experience hatered. My children are multiracial and I see alot of ignorant and scared people out there.

The best we can do is love our children for who and what they are and hope GOD is watching out for them.

God Bless

Comments: A very touching story. I'd like to thank Gabi for the positive work she has done and is doing as a result of this. I'll probably never meet her but I know the results of her work can only be positive in country where the extreme religious right holds so much influence.

The United Kingdom is about to legally recognise long-term homosexual relationships in the same way it already does with heterosexuals (most of the EU has done so for years, and the Netherlands has FULL equality), so things are moving in the right direction.

It will be a great day when the US catches up with the rest of the civilised world, and gay people there are treated as equals, as we are finally beginning to be treated in Europe.

Comments: While I offer my condolences to you and your family over the tragic loss of your son, you should not be promoting the dangerous, distressed, diseased, deadly and damnable sin of homosexuality.

I offer my words of wisdom at the link above from my website for those seeking help of a different nature!

Here are but a few article titles that may be of assistance to those combating the sinful temptations of the condition of homosexuality:

*HOW TO HALT AIDS - A NURSE'S SECRET WEAPON - TELL THE TRUTH!

*WHY DID 9-11 HAPPEN - AMERICA THE MODERN SODOM & GAMORRAH?

*HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOURS FUELING STD'S AND AIDS EPIDEMICS

*HIV/AIDS STATISTICS FROM THE US NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH

*WHAT GOD SAYS IN THE BIBLE ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY

IF you truely seek GOD, you will find your peace.

Luckly I have lots of friends that support me and are also like me (gay) and I have family that excepts me. I am proud to be the way I am and I find it very encouraging to others that you two have been able to write such a story, as I know its hard to cope with a tragidy, such as this. I bless your heart and wish you the best of luck with changing the minds of others. I'm having a hard time changning the minds of some. But remember, "Not one person can build a city, you do eventually need help... And there is some out there..."

Comments: For once in my life, I am at a loss for words. Bill's story brought back many memories of my growing up in a conserative Catholic town. Fortunately, my incidents of homophobia were not as horrific as those of Bill's. However, reading Bill's story made me realize that I was not alone in how I felt. I wish I had the chance to have met Bill. Today, the world is a much poorer place without Bill. Although I have never met him, I feel in the way that I have and now my heart too feels the loss of not having Bill with us any longer. To his parents, I would like to say to you that Bill would not have wanted to cause you any pain with his death, but, believe me, there are times when one feels that death is the lesser of two evils. I wish I could say some majic words to ease your pain. All that I can say is that your web-site has helped me more than you will ever know. I hope that it can also help other young men and women dealing with their coming out. It is a fantastic jesture in memory of your son Bill. Thanks for taking the time to help others when we should be helping you with your loss of Bill. Take care, God Bless. Allan

There are many people out there that suffer with the anguish of not knowing how they fit into society, but if we all were more tollerant we'd all realise that society is a mixture of all cultures and minorities. Hatred is a terrible thing and i hope that one day people will realise that life is just too precious and love is such a wonderful thing :)

It is 00.21h now and I'm sitting at my desk with tears rolling down my face. But even though the tragic story of Bill and the circumstances that made him choose death over life is a more than sad one to tell it is so important that you share it with all of us. I had to face situations of apparent homophobia too, insults and all, but never was attacked or anything. So I feel lucky and sad because what happened to Bill. Working for a Gay Magazine I try to contribute my share to end hate and violence against gays, bisexuals and transgendered people. If we all join hands we'll make it through! I sometimes feel the despare that Bill must have felt - even now, but take hope in the future, and the education of the clearly ignorant that we may have a better world for future generations.

Comments: Sounds to me like the kid didn't have a spine. There are kids all over this world facing the same problem. they don't kill themselves. You say you were learning how to deal with children who were being sexually abused, and yet you couldn't spot the symptoms in your own family. Bad job!! You expect my loved one or myself to recieve a transplant from a person associated with a high risk group. Aids does not hate. I blame you for not giving your child the inner strength to survive in this world. I'm in no way perfect but when I'm at the point of breaking down I have a father in heaven to fall upon. It's truly sad that you had to go through this. as I also have had people in my life commit suicide. But to read that you want the Lions club to change their rules to make you feel better really irks me. I guess I could have done what I usually do(If you don't have anything good to say don't say anything) But you need a wake up call. Your son was a deviant who was so wrapped up in his own little world he couldn't see the real suffering out there. and you as a parent failed him by not giving him the building blocks to defend himself and his ideals. There is no hate here just pity.

Comments: thank you for sharing Bill's life with me and many others. recently a transgender youth was murdered in California and i've started looking online to see many other victims of hate crimes. i am 23 years old and a psychology stident at the university of california santa cruz. i am bisexual. one thing that i am learning is that silence keeps the hate alive. i wrote a poem about hate and i'm going to include it. we have to keep the memory of those who died alive in the presence of those who help take the life. thank you for your story and the memory of Bill. he will be missed by all especially the lives he didn't touch while here. even in his death he is still touching lives.

Keeping fear alive
Destroying lives
Start from the basics
We are all human
We all bleed red blood
We all die
We all live
As humans we categorize everything
People
Plants
Animals
Stars
Class
Work
We hate each other
Because we are afraid
We don’t want to look into ourselves
We don’t want to look into others
We want to be strong
Accepted by society
This country talks of equal rights
Of freedom
How can you be free,
When you are butchered for being gay
How can we be free,
When you are hung for being black
Why do we want everyone to conform to standard that no one holds up too?
We watch our children die
We watch our soldiers kill
We watch our politicians corrupt our country
We watch people taking the lives of other people
I have two things to say
Hate kills, Love breeds
Words hurt, People kill
Think of that, the next time you hear words of hate
The next time you use those words
We all use words of hate
Let’s pay attention to our words
People are people
Even if you don’t agree with the way they live
Who they love
What their racial background is
What religion they are
What political party they affiliate with
What their mental health is
Stop the silence of hate

Comments: Your story truly touched me. I am constantly wondering when some people are going to realize that this sort of hatred is no different than hatred about race, religion or anything else about a person that may be "different". What is different? Everyone is different. But it won't be until everyone excepts this that peace will truly come. I pray that the people who think they are perfect will be greatly challenged and shown that you are only as good as you treat others. I will be constanly reminded of Bill's courage, as well as yours. Thank you for sharing it with me. I am joining you in the quest to help end hate, and related crimes by spreading love and understanding to ignorant people.

Comments: Dear Gabi and family,

I'm so sorry for your loss; Bill sounds like such a great guy - and he was lucky to have such an amazingly supportive and accepting family.

As a 20-year-old queer female, I really feel for you. I was suicidal for six years, and am just beginning to get myself out of that mindset... it's a shame that Bill left this world so early, I would have loved to have known him.

Best of luck for the future,
Lee.

Comments: I just want to say that I admire you, your family, and Bill's courage through all the events that occurred. I was actually searching for research on suicides and I came across this page. I am trully sorry for your loss and hardships; i just wish your ending was a bit more cheerfull. All I really want to do right now is yell at the assaulters, the haters, and those who just didn't want to understand, "ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?!" I am sorry, but if I were a reason for someone to commit suicide or live a misserable life, I would hate myself forever.

Comments: Your son was most admirable. This world is really messed up. Before anything else Bill was a HUMAN BEING with feeling and emotions. His sexuality had nothing to do with the wonderful person he was. My prayers are with you and my support

Comments: I thought your story was interesting and I'm very sorry for what happened to Bill. I too am Bi-sexual, and I dont think that it is right for people to judge us b/c of our sexual preference. I feel for Bill's family and again I am sorry for what happened.
