Therapist; Center for Individual and Family Counseling; Olympia, WA - 8/93 to 6/96

Provided individual, family, couples and group therapy.  Therapeutic issues included: grief and loss, healing from trauma for crime victims, anger management, relationships, parenting, and adolescent development.  Provided case consultation to therapists in the community.  Trained and supervised graduate interns in therapy groups and individual case consultations.  Collaborated with other therapists in designing group therapy programs for adults, adolescents, and children.  Wrote treatment plans and reports to outside agencies.  Designed forms, brochures and flyers used to gather information or to promote programs and services.

 Residential Youth Counselor; Haven House, Olympia, WA3/90 to 10/93

Created a safe, nurturing environment at this shelter for adolescents run by Community Youth Services, while providing consistent structure to minimize crisis behavior.  Facilitated therapeutic groups, provided brief solution-focused individual counseling, and developed goal-directed individual treatment plans with youth in care.  Educated adolescent residents in problem solving and social skills.  Case management included intake assessments, daily shift reports, and consistent contact with caseworkers, therapists, probation officers, and family members to maintain a team approach to crisis intervention.  Acted as crisis liaison for the public by providing telephone counseling, assessment and referral to other community resources as needed.  Trained and supervised new staff and college interns.

Published a weekly newspaper (5 years), a monthly general interest magazine (1+ years), and a statewide quarterly arts and literary magazine (2 years).  Responsibilities included:  writing, copy editing, design, layout, photography, illustration, bookkeeping, business correspondence, advertising sales, promotion, training and supervising a small staff.

Co-Director; Persons Service; Hattiesburg, MS - 11/77 to 12/81

Co-founded and directed a non-profit service organization that provided crisis counseling, referral services, emergency housing, free meals and clothing to people in need. Organized a food co-op, and helped to establish a statewide coalition of battered women's shelters.  Trained and supervised volunteers.

Provided 24 hour a day crisis counseling and referral services to the public.  Helped staff an emergency shelter, soup line, food co-op, free school, day care center, and community-based alternative weekly newspaper.
